Virginia Tech Hokies – (ACC) Atlantic Coast Conference
The Virginia Tech Hokies compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They previously competed in the Big East. The Hokies have won over 700 games in 124 years and appeared in 30 bowl games, including the 2000 BCS National Championship. Since 1993 they have appeared in 24 straight Bowl games currently the longest bowl game streak in the country. Over the years the program has also won 10 conference titles and produced 8 All-Americans. Main rivalries are with Miami, Virginia and BC.
The Hokies home games are played at Lane Stadium, located in Blacksburg, Virginia. The stadium opened in 1965 and seats 66,233 fans. Always one of the loudest stadiums in the country, it was voted by ESPN the number one scariest place to play in the country. In 2005 Rivals.com rated it as having the best home-field advantage in the country. The fans are intense the atmosphere is charged the tailgating is serious. There are numerous suites and club seats built for comfort. The sidelines are all one level forming a large lower bowl with nice site lines. The traditions from pre-game with the Hokie Walk to the firing of “Skipper” the cannon after scores and all the other activities make this a top college football take.
