Virginia Cavaliers – (ACC) Atlantic Coast Conference
The Cavaliers play in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Established in 1888 the program has won over 650 games and has appeared in 18 Bowl games. They arguably participated in the first football game ever played in the south perhaps as early as 1871. Their first ACC season was in 1954. The team has had mixed results over the years but since the 1990’s have fared pretty well. Main rivals include North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Maryland.
The Cavaliers play at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville, Virginia. The stadium built in 1941 seats 61,500. It is a large horseshoe with a huge hill at the open end where students gather. When the stadium fills up it is a great site and it can get loud. It’s a very beautiful college stadium with an atmosphere that is typical for such a prestigious school. Some fans still get dressed up with jackets and ties. There are luxury suites and priority sideline seats if you want most comfort. All lower bowl seats are very close to the action so you will feel like you’re in the game. This is southern style football at its best!
