Oklahoma State Cowboys – (Big 12) Conference
The Oklahoma State Cowboys play in the Football Bowl Division Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in the Big 12 Conference. The Cowboys sport an all-time record of 603–552–49 (.521). They have won 10 conference titles, are 18- 10 in Bowl games and won a national championship in 1945. Many fine coaches including Jimmy Johnson have coached at OSU and one of the greatest running backs in history Barry Sanders played here. This is a fine program now headed by Mike Gundy in his 14th season. His overall record is 125-57.
Oklahoma State plays their home games at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma. In 2003, alumnus T. Boone Pickens made a historic donation to the university for improvements to its athletic facilities, and it was announced that the stadium would be renamed in his honor. Boone Pickens Stadium is one of a very few major college football stadiums with an east-west configuration. The stadiums capacity is 56,790. The brand new 6,160 square foot video jumbotron will be one of the ten largest in the country, placing it ahead of USC’s jumbotron at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The student section has a tradition of hitting orange paddles on the sideline wall at home games. This tradition apparently started in the early 90’s. These revelers are known as the Pokes and chanting and singing is also on the bill. Stillwater is a nice college town and tailgating begins early in the day. You will see bright orange pop up tents and enjoy the smell of great BBQ. Tickets are reasonable for any seat and there is no bad seat there are just seats further back. The best seats closest to the field will run less than $200 most games of course the big rivalry games especially the OK game expect to pay much more.
