Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners play in the Football Bowl Division Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in the Big 12 Conference.  OU also has the highest winning percentage of any team since the start of the AP poll in 1936.  The program began in 1895 and is one of the most successful programs since World War II with the most wins (606) and the highest winning percentage (.762) since 1945. OU has won 7 national championships, 45 conference championships and produced 162 First Team All-Americans and 6 Heisman Trophy winners. In addition, the school has had 5 coaches and 18 players inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. They hold the record for the longest winning streak in Division I history with 47 straight victories. Oklahoma is also the only program that has had four coaches with 100+ wins. They became the sixth NCAA FBS team to win 850 games when they defeated the Kansas Jayhawks on November 22, 2014.   

Games are played at the Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The stadium is also known as “The Palace on the Prairie”. It’s almost 100 years old having opened in 1923. Recently renovated in 2015 it has a capacity of 86,112, making it the second-largest stadium in the Big 12. The stadium is a bowl design, with both end zones enclosed. The most prominent feature is the clock tower built into the wall behind the north end zone. This is truly one of the best atmospheres to enjoy college football in the nation. The stadium is located on campus, so you really get the feel the spirit and enthusiasm. These fans are used to winning and tailgating begins many hours before kickoff. Once inside the stadium the noise is about as loud it gets. The 350-member Sooner band is one of the best college bands in the country.
