South Carolina Gamecocks – (SEC) Southeastern Conference
The South Carolina Gamecocks football team plays in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference. This successful program has competed at a high level in the tough SEC in recent times having first filed a program in 1892. From 1953 through 1970, the Gamecocks played in the ACC. From 1971 through 1991, they competed as a major independent before joining the SEC for the 1992 season. The Gamecocks have produced a high number of NFL draft choices with almost 30 former players playing in the NFL. Presently. They have won almost 600 games and have appeared in 21 bowl games winning 8. Chief rivals are the Clemson Tigers, North Carolina Tarheals and the Georgia Bulldogs.
They play their home games at Williams-Brice Stadium aka “The Cock Pit”. Currently, it is the 20th largest stadium in college football seating 80,250 and known as one of the loudest stadiums in Amerca.. The Gamecocks’ enter Williams-Brice Stadium to the introduction of “Also sprach Zarathustra”, know primarily as being from the film “2001: A Space Odyssey”. Carolina football teams consistently attract standing-room-only crowds to Williams-Brice Stadium. The atmosphere on game days has been voted “the best” by SECsports.com. The best seats are the hard to get Gamecock and Champions Club. 200 and 600 level executive club seats round out the premium offering.
